Introduction to the Pencil Tool in Reason
Last updated on February 7, 2021 while using Reason Studios Reason 11
The Penicl Tool is the second tool in the Toolbar. Select this tool by clicking on it or by pressing [W] on the keyboard. It is easily identified by its pencil icon. This tool is used to draw clips and events in clips in the Sequencer Area.[1]
Alternate Tools
While holding [CTRL](Win) or [Cmd](Mac) the Pencil Tool will momentarily become the Selection Tool.[1]
If a clip is opened in Edit Mode, there will be two Pencil Tool options available. This is indicated by a small arrow under the pencil tool icon.[1]

Clicking on the Pencil Tool while in Edit Mode will give you the option to “Draw single note” and “Draw multiple notes”. See page 265 of Reason 11.2 Operation Manual for information on Drawing Notes.[1]
