The Combinator in Reason

The Combinator, as the name suggests, is a device that allows you combine multiple instruments  and effects into a single contained unit.[1]  Along with built in instruments and effects, Rack Extensions have been compatible with the Combinator since their release in 2012 [2]

Combi patches

A saved Combinator patch is called a Combi. A Combi has the “.cmb” file extension. All devices and settings saved in a Combi are retained when reloading the patch.

Sections of the Combinator

There are four sections that make up the Combinator. These sections are the top panel, Controller panel, the Programmer panel, the lower section. The top panel and the lower section do not have defined names in Reason Studios documentation. They are only described as their relative locations.

Top Panel

The top panel is visible while the Combinator is folded and unfolded. From left to right this panel displays the fold/unfold arrow, Bypass/On/Off switch, label, patch name, patch select arrows, patch browser, and patch save button
